Baker, CA....

...population: 914.

In the Mojave desert, and at the intersection of Highway 15 and Death Valley Road, Baker survives by being a desert rest stop for folks traveling between L.A and Vegas.

Baker's claim to fame is the "Worlds Largest Thermometer", which stands at the center of town at 134 feet, a number significant in that it represents the hottest temperature ever recorded in the Untied States. (134 degrees, Death Valley, 1913). The town was named for R.C Baker, president of the Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad, in 1908.

Worlds tallest thermometer. Clark Griswold's dream.
